Vancouver Co-Working Hub Expands to Toronto

HatchSpace, a popular co-working startup originally launched in Vancouver, is expanding eastward with the opening of its first Toronto location. Known for its flexible design, community-driven programming, and eco-conscious interiors, the company is targeting professionals who seek more than just a desk and Wi-Fi.

Located in a refurbished brick-and-beam warehouse in the city’s Distillery District, the new space blends historic character with modern amenities. It features private offices, hot desks, podcast booths, and wellness rooms—plus an on-site café that serves fair-trade coffee from local roasters.

CEO Andrew Kim said the expansion is in response to rising demand for hybrid workspaces in major urban centers. 'Toronto’s startup ecosystem is thriving, and remote workers want inspiring spaces to connect. We’re bringing the West Coast vibe east—without compromising functionality,' Kim explained.

The launch comes as the co-working industry rebounds post-pandemic. While some global players have scaled back, HatchSpace has steadily grown by focusing on smaller, curated communities and offering flexible membership options that appeal to freelancers, creatives, and remote corporate teams alike.

The company is also known for its strong sustainability focus. The Toronto space was built using reclaimed materials and outfitted with smart lighting, energy-efficient HVAC, and waste reduction stations. HatchSpace claims its operations are certified carbon neutral through local offset programs.

Early adopters include several Toronto-based tech startups and nonprofit organizations. Regular events—like “Pitch & Pizza” nights and creative workshops—have already begun to foster a sense of community among members. 'It’s more than a workplace,' said new member Lydia Tsang. 'It’s a launchpad.'

HatchSpace plans to open two more Ontario locations by the end of next year. With coworking now an integral part of Canada’s professional landscape, its Toronto debut marks not just growth—but a shift in how Canadians choose to work and collaborate in the post-office era.
